Bob
Roenigk is a Houston native and grew up in Sugar Land. His
wife Marcia is also a native of the area. She was born and
raised in Fort Bend County in the little town of Beasley.
The Roenigk's founded and operate The Vintage Rosery, an antique
rose farm in Fort Bend County. Known as a "destination
horticultural center", The Vintage Rosery has acres of
public gardens displaying more than 800 old garden roses along
with perennials, herbs and native plants. Situated around
a lake and a separate pond and waterfall, the gardens were
designed to inspire as well as demonstrate how to grow roses
using organic gardening principals.
Bob didn't plan on his current occupation. He went to North
Texas State University majoring in Computer Science and then
started what became a chain of computer retail stores in Houston
named ComputerLand. He sold that business in the early 80's
and then started a computer software development firm providing
automation to emergency 911 centers around the country.
His wife Marcia got him hooked on gardening and antique roses.
They went through the Master Gardener program in Fort Bend
County in 1993 and started visiting public & private gardens
and horticultural centers wherever they
traveled.
They purchased land in Needville and started the design and
planting of acres of their own public gardens eight years
ago. Phase I was finally completed in the Spring or 2003 when
the Vintage Rosery opened for visitors and sales.
Bob's most recent new start-up has been his involvement with
Creekside Christian Fellowship in Needville. Creekside was
launched as a non denominational Christian church Easter Sunday
in 2004. The first ministry of the church has been Plant-A-Row
For The Hungry. This ministry has area gardeners plant an
extra row of produce. The additional crop is then collected
and distributed through the local food banks.
Bob and Marcia have two dogs, Maximus (a Great Dane) and Catherine
(a Chocolate lab); two Siamese cats & three or four ducks
depending on the weather.
The Vintage Rosery are members of the Texas Organic Farmers
& Gardeners Association and the Texas Nurserymen and Landscapers
Association. More information on the Roenigk's and The Vintage
Rosery is available at
